Seventeen-year-old Giselle and her older brother, Antoine, are leaving behind their tragic life in Houston to escape their mother. Their grandmother sends them away to stay with their Aunt Wendy in New York. While she is there, Giselle meets Jay, a brash, charismatic Brooklyn boy who changes her whole perspective on her life and who she wants to be. Their complicated relationship puts a divide between her and Antoine and brings about new possibilities for her future. The more she is around him the more mysterious he becomes. She makes him question all the things that he was so sure about before. Giselle is stuck between following her heart and her survival. Either way, deep down she knows that she has no control.
